The Instructors

Alex Armstrong

Winds

My name is Alex Armstrong and I’m from Portland, Oregon. My primary instrument is the double bass but I also play the trombone and several other band instruments. I love music because it gives me the freedom to create and express myself the way words never could. I also enjoy playing sports, reading, and game nights with friends.

Alexis Reid

Piano and Strings

Hello, my name is Alexis Reid and I am a Junior Music Education major with an emphasis in piano. I was born and raised in Columbia, South Carolina. My primary instruments include piano, violin, and viola. I have played piano for 12 years, violin for six, and viola for two.

Isabelle Brutus

Piano

Isabelle Brutus was born in Rhode Island but grew up in Florida. She is studying music and pre-med at Union College. Her parents signed her up for piano lessons at the age of 7 and she never stopped playing. After taking biology, chemistry, and other difficult pre-med classes, Isabelle still says music theory was more difficult.

Daniel Martinez

Guitar Director

Daniel Martinez, Flamenco guitar stylist, composer and teacher, hails from Iquitos, Peru. Martinez picked up the guitar as a teen, but it wasn’t until he moved to the United States to attend college that he started to take his music seriously. Since then, he has mastered classical guitar and won national guitar competitions.

Martinez is a guitar professor at Union College and the owner of Daniel Martinez Music. Martinez has performed in Peru, Chile, Ecuador, Bolivia, Brazil, Canada and across the United States. Today, four solo Christian instrumental recordings later, he is a sought-after instructor of all styles of guitar for all ages, as well as being a familiar presence on stages in the region.

Martinez is a music and culture ambassador for the Nebraska Arts Council and a teaching artist for both The Lied Center for Performing Arts in Lincoln and the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington D.C. He is also a passionate instrumental artist for Pacific Press, Chapel Records, 3ABN, and LLBN.
